Royal London, Bristol

Starting life as a £500k interior fit out, completed as a £1.8m external front facade restoration including original clock tower AND the original interior fit out of Cat A office space!  An exceptional project from start to finish.

The Brief

To bring this impressive landmark building back from it's former glory, modernising all areas to Cat A standard.  The initial scope consisted of refurbishment of the ground floor reception area including bespoke counter and soft seating, offices and toilets to two floors.  New air-conditioning, power and data, glazed partitioning, carpets and decor were required to improve the standard throughout the building.  Royal London recognise the significance of attracting corporate tenants who require quality premises in which to work.

The Design Concept

We needed to comprehensively understand the brief and then visit site; surveying the structure of the building from which we could create the best solutions to give an important "wow" first impression and a continued one as one walked around the building.  A quality and modern design specification coupled with furniture, fixtures and fittings that enhanced and maximised the use of space to achieve the desired result.

What We Delivered

Appealing to businesses looking for a central location, this project has created perfect corporate premises for the discerning client.  Not without it's challenges, this project started life as an interior fit-out project.  During these works, it became apparent that the front facia required specialist stone restoration works to preserve this iconic building for many years to come.  Upon structural surveying and careful consideration, it was agreed that full restoration of the entire front facade was the best solution.  Internal works were completed to programme and in line with the brief before commencement of the external stone works.  An 8 week project turned into an 18 month project overnight.

Works encompassed the design, management and frequent monitoring of complex scaffolding that saw frequent modifications as the buildings; facia was steadily restored, stone by stone.  Each stone required co-ordinated, specialist labour to remove so as to repair the damaged walls behind.  The clock tower, an original masterpiece of engineering and focal point of the buildings' roof was also professionally restored ensuring it accurately tells the time for years to come.

This was a complex project but immensely satisfying to see all elements of our scope come to fruition.  Royal London, although challenged with the decision to undertake such complex, time consuming works, made the decision to proceed and the result so many months later proved testament to their agreement to proceed and appoint us to deliver the works on their behalf.

An excellent project for one of our most loyal and long standing clients, thank you.  Photographs of the entire project will be available very soon.
